The Sea to Sky Potters Guild (formerly the Whistler Pottery Club) was established in 2002 by a group of passionate clay enthusiasts. The club began as a way for like minded potters to connect and grow through workshops and mentorship and for beginners and advanced potters to get inspired with other artists in a creative environment.
For years the club met every Tuesday evening at the Whistler Secondary School art room and grew into a vibrant clay community. The Guild was able to offer beginners classes, put on community shows as well as three hugely successful Empty Bowls events, raising over $4000 each year towards our local food banks.
Unfortunately, the High School is no longer able to host the SSPG and this has left many of our members without a space to practice their craft for the last two years.
The Guild has been actively pursuing other options to try to find a space, but this has been a difficult task due to the nature of working with clay and the specific needs that would be required in the clay studio.
We do not currently have a venue for workshops, classes or drop-ins, but we are supportive of the plans for the Summit Centre in Whistler.
Is there a place in Whistler where local pottery is for sale?
Yes, you can go to Whistler Arts Council in the Millennium Place building and they have pieces for sale. You can also visit the potters at home – Vincent, Denise or Kathleen would love to have you come by – check out their individual pages on this site. There are also markets on Saturdays at the Westin (http://www.artswhistler.com/event/made-in-whistler).
Hi:) I would really love to find a studio that has drop-in times for wheel/kiln use. Do you know of anything? Thank you so much!
Hello, do you run any classes for beginners?
Thanks!:)
Hi, sorry, we do not 😦 you’d have to go to Squamish or Vancouver
Hello! Where in Squamish can you find courses? Cheers!
Seek out Kay Austen or Muddy Marvels Pottery, either one of them will have some ideas
